Alibaba Qwen Team Releases Qwen3.8-LiveTranslate: A Real-Time Interpretation Model That Cuts Average Lag to 2.3 Seconds Across 60 Languages
The Alibaba Qwen team has released Qwen3.8-LiveTranslate, a real-time simultaneous interpretation model built on a new Interleave architecture. The release marks a notable step forward in low-latency machine interpretation, with the model reducing average lagging (LAAL) from 2.8 seconds to 2.3 seconds.
Key Performance Improvement
The most significant headline figure is the reduction in average lagging. Qwen3.8-LiveTranslate cuts LAAL from 2.8 seconds down to 2.3 seconds, tightening the delay between spoken input and interpreted output for real-time use cases.
New Capabilities
Beyond latency improvements, the model introduces several features aimed at making live interpretation more practical and accurate:
- Real-time speaker diarization with stable voice cloning
- Synchronized bilingual display
- Long-context disambiguation for names and terms
Language Coverage
Qwen3.8-LiveTranslate understands 60 languages and speaks 29. This broad coverage supports interpretation across a wide range of multilingual scenarios.
Availability
The model is available now as a WebSocket API on Alibaba Cloud Model Studio and QwenCloud.
